IGY Renovates Montauk Yacht Club

“A GRAND TRADITION, A NEW BEGINNING,” IGY ENTERS PHASE II OF ITS RENOVATION PROGRAM FOR THE HISTORIC MONTAUK YACHT CLUB RESORT & MARINA

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (November 17, 2008): The Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina closed today for the winter season and commenced Phase II of its multi-million dollar transformation, as announced by Island Global Yachting (IGY), owners of the historic resort and yachting lifestyle destination.  The renovation, which began during the off-season last year, will, upon completion, encompass nearly every corner of this fabled hotel and marina.  Phase II coincides with the Resort’s celebration of its 80th Anniversary and includes further enhancements to the Montauk Yacht Club’s guestrooms and suites, public spaces, and meeting and conference facilities.

“Each summer, for the past eight decades, the Montauk Yacht Club has welcomed guests to the Hamptons with its unique charm and character – it truly is a classic,” said Andrew Farkas, founder and chairman of IGY.  “We are so pleased to be able to mark the occasion of its 80th anniversary with the continuation of our refurbishment of the property.  We are dedicated to the Yacht Club’s fabled past and its legacy in the community, and have carefully designed this renovation to not only restore this grande dame to her former glory, but to carry her forward for the next 80 years.”

All construction/renovation activities for Phase II will be completed prior to the re-opening of the Resort in April 2009 for the summer season. All of the Resort’s old furniture is being donated to Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore Program.

Phase Two Renovation Highlights -- Phase Two of the renovation continues improvements and enhancements to the Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina which began last winter with design inspiration from Daniel Ramouldez Architects.  This includes advanced renovations to select guestrooms and suites including new nautical yacht club-themed décor and furnishings, flat panel televisions, new carpeting and paint, and a coffee bar with built-in refrigerator.  Public areas and guestroom corridors will also see enhancements including new carpeting, lighting and décor.  Additionally, the Resort’s main ballroom will also be updated to better accommodate and serve the many weddings and meetings held at the MYC.  The new ballroom will feature a pickled hardwood floor, new window treatments, and event lighting.

Phase I of this renovation was completed last March, receiving rave reviews.
This included a refreshed lobby experience and the addition of new guestroom appointments featuring residential-style accents, modern accessories and a new bedding package.  As well, the new Lighthouse Patio was unveiled, set on a magnificent blue slate terrace with luxurious Henry Hall™ lounge furniture, overlooking the Yacht Club’s scenic marina and serving signature cocktails.

In concert with these physical renovations, the Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina continues to improve its service standards with dedicated training programs for improved guest relations.  These signature programs are resort-pervasive from the front office to housekeeping to the restaurants and the marina with intuitive hospitality unmatched on Long Island.

ABOUT MONTAUK YACHT CLUB RESORT HOTEL & MARINA -- Founded in 1929 and situated along a 22-acre waterfront parcel, the historic Montauk Yacht Club Resort & Marina has long been a perennial favorite playground for those who frequent the shores of Long Island's South Fork East End. The Resort actually began as three separate estates. The original club building was built by entrepreneur Carl Fisher, the master builder who turned Miami from a sleepy backwater town into a thriving resort city. Fisher had dreams of replicating his success with the small seaside village of Montauk by creating a playground for the rich and famous.  The club's original membership included Vincent Astor, J.P. Morgan, Nelson Doubleday, Edsel Ford, Harry Payne Whitney, Thomas Eastman, John Wanamaker and Harold S. Vanderbilt. Among the many guests was famed aviator Charles Lindbergh, who often flew his seaplane into the harbor to dock at the Marina.

Today, the Resort offers 107 comfortably-elegant guestrooms with views of Lake Montauk, including the 23 Villa Cottages.  The Resort features superb dining in the Lighthouse Grill and lighter fare within the casual ambiance of Breeze’s Café.  Social and corporate groups are accommodated within flexible event space, including four conference rooms and a newly renovated ballroom, as well as extensive outdoor space.  Recreational offerings include a private beach, Spa MYC, tennis, outdoor and indoor pools, and golf at the nearby Montauk Downs, however the highlight is the property’s 232-slip marina -- recognized by Yachting magazine as a “Top Ten Marina Destination in North America, Mexico & the Bahamas.”   Home to the Brits vs. Yanks, Redbone, and Whitewater Challenger Montauk Yacht Club fishing tournaments, the marina accommodates vessels of up to 250+ feet with a maximum 12+-foot draft and features signature IGY services and comprehensive on-site amenities.  For reservations or more information, please call 888-MYC-8668 or visit www.montaukyachtclub.com
