Andrew Farkas founded Island Capital Group LLC in 2003 and is the company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.  Mr. Farkas was previously the Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Insignia Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE: IFS), a global real estate services company that was merged with CB Richard Ellis in July 2003 to form the world's largest commercial real estate services company at the time.

During the period from the founding of Insignia in 1990 with just $5 million of equity through its merger with CB Richard Ellis in 2003, Mr. Farkas grew the company into the largest owner and operator of multifamily real estate in the United States.  It was also among the largest owners and operators of commercial space in the United States, controlling or managing approximately 350,000 residential units and over 200 million square feet of commercial space.

The initial assets of Island Capital Group were a portfolio of investments that the company acquired from Insignia at the time of the merger.  Since then we have maximized our human assets and expertise to develop advisory engagements, expand our portfolio of investments, and create new businesses.  With a strong foundation for growth, flexibility, and depth of experience in a diverse range of industries, Island Capital Group is leading the real estate industry in sponsoring innovative and profitable opportunities around the world.
