Frank M. Garrison, Senior Advisor
Frank M. Garrison is a Senior Advisor with Island Capital Group and also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Island Global Yachting Ltd., which is a controlled affiliate of Island Capital Group. Mr. Garrison is in his 20th year of association with Andrew Farkas and companies affiliated with Mr. Farkas.
Mr. Garrison started his career practicing commercial law with Farris, Warfield and Kanaday specializing in securities, creditor’s rights and other commercial/corporate matters until 1982, when he became involved in the real estate and service company finance business. Until July 2003, he held the title of Office of the Chairman of Insignia Financial Group, Inc. and President of Insignia Financial Services, Insignia’s investment banking and principal investment arm. Mr. Garrison was with Insignia for approximately 12 years and was directly responsible for and oversaw or personally negotiated over 60 acquisitions of operating service companies, 90 public tender offers, multiple financings of both debt and equity for Insignia and the sale of various divisions and ultimately the remaining business in several public company transactions the last of which occurred in July 2003. In addition, Mr. Garrison was responsible for managing Insignia’s principal real estate investment business group which acquired over $5 billion of assets and managed joint venture relationships with a variety of institutions. Mr. Garrison also had responsibility for managing Insignia’s CMBS and distressed debt investment management group. From October 2005 through September 2007, Mr. Garrison served as President of Courage Capital Management, LLC, a registered investment advisor with approximately $1 billion of assets under management and offices in Nashville, Boston and Mumbai, India. During such time Mr. Garrison remained involved in Island Capital Group’s CMBS fund business and in several other Island activities. Mr. Garrison formally joined Island Capital Group as a Senior Advisor in November 2007 and is a principal involved in a variety of Island’s businesses, including its CMBS and distressed debt fund business and Island Global Yachting.
Mr. Garrison also serves as a Commissioner of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, is a Past President of the Vanderbilt University School of Law National Council, a Past President and current member of the Board of Trustees of University School of Nashville, and a Board Member of the Frist Center for the Visual Arts where he chairs the Finance Committee.
Mr. Garrison, age 55, attended Vanderbilt University where he graduated in 3 years while earning a double major in Business and Economics (B.A. ‘76) and received a J.D. from Vanderbilt School of Law in 1979.
